Nerd Credentials
It happened one fateful day... the thin line between geek and uber geek was crossed. I penetrated into the inner layers of geekdom, the hellish, inhospitable fortress of utter sadness.
I purchased a Gundam model.
It was a momentary mistake surely. It could be hidden, right? Stashed under the stairs with the malignant relative? But no. I went and made the same mistake. I recieved another as a gift. And the purchased three more. And another one. (etc.) I was forever condemned to that inner circle of geek.
What follows are a set of pictures which may disturb you. A set of pictures of plastic models of fictional robots. I post them here as an SOS to those with the power to reverse my descent into the deepest darkest nerd hell. What if I were to commit some true atrocity, like playing Dungeons and Dragons or some other tabletop game involving Satan's own instrument... Dice?
Be thankful it's a shitty cameraphone.
1/100 Scale Turn-A Gundam (Rating: 4/5 - good for what it costs, panel-lines essential. Hand joints a little loose, but otherwise looks great with only minimal colour inaccuracies. Plus, it's the Turn-A. GO GO MOUSTACHIO GUNDAMU!)
1/144 Scale Destiny Gundam (Rating: 1/5 - Cost next to nothing, but still not worth it. Requires major painting and looks barely passable when you're finished. Not that i've bothered to paint it mind you...)
1/144 Scale Kapool (Rating: 3/5 - A must for fans of the design, very simple but good value for the little money it costs. Painting helps a lot.)
1/144 Scale Turn-X (Rating: 3.5/5 - Great design, reasonable and really cheap model. Pen-work alone gets you a good model, with only the backpack in need of painting. Good articulation, looks cool whatever pose you have it make)
1/100 Scale Gold Sumo (Rating: 4/5 - Gold Plating looks great. I molded the legs inexpertly and he has a bit of trouble posing sadly. Needs that orange/brown paint on those ugly dark-brown bits. The ultimate tea-stirring robot for the discerning englishwoman/man/manwoman)
1/100 Scale Master Grade (version 2) Zeta Gundam (MS mode) (Rating: 5/5 - I love the design, and everything about the model is just well manufactured. Even the box is 10 kinds of awesome. Personally I found it a little hard to pose standing, but action shots on the stand are more fun anyway. Painting doubtless makes it look awesome, but i'm not brave enough for anything major like that. Haven't put the decals on yet, but they'll make it look even better no doubt).
(Waverider Mode) Personally i'm a bit weary about transforming Zeta to Waverider as it's a little long winded and confusing (rather than doing the 17,000 steps with the wings it probably makes more sense to just take them off the model until you need them!) and you always fear you're weakening the model. Looks great, but I can't work out how to get the tiny wings on the side to pop out.
1/100 Scale Master Grade Hi-Zack (Titans Mass Production) A cool variation on a classic design. Haven't got round to panel lining this one or placing the decals, but it looks damned funky already! Has plenty of weapons that it looks badass holding. I got it mainly so I could set it up with the Zeta, most likely dying. Poor canon fodder mecha :P
Wishlist MG Rick Dias (Zeta Gundam - cool and not that expensive) MG
Hyakushiki (Zeta Gundam's shiny golden MS, piloted by the poorly
disguised Char Aznable) MG Nemo (Puny Mass Produced MS with great possable model and low price) MG Re-GZ (Char's Counterattack - it's Zeta, but it isn't!) MG
Nu Gundam (Char's Counterattack - looks cool, still don't like the film
that much!)
