Fanlistings

The Fanlistings states that "A fanlisting is a web clique that lists fans of a particular subject. Unlike most web cliques, a person does not need a web site in order to join. Fans from around the world submit their information to their approved fanlisting and they are then listed to show their love for the subject".

Final Fantasy VI

A Role Playing Video Game for Nintendo’s SNES (known as SFC in Japan) games console. Originally released in America under the title of “Final Fantasy III”, later released on Sony’s Playstation console with the correct title in both America (with FFV, in “Final Fantasy Anthology”) and Europe (bundled with a Demo of Final Fantasy X).

The game charts the story of a young woman named Terra, who wields the long forgotten art of magic against the evil empire that tried to control her. On her journey, she is joined by many unique and interesting characters, who each have their own reasons for fighting Gesthal’s empire.

Relm Arrowny

Relm is one of these characters, and unique to the point of having no obvious comparison in the Final Fantasy Series.

“In her pictures she captures everything: forests, water, light...the very essence of life...”

Relm is an artist, probably the best her world has ever known. Her works are so realistic that she effectively lets them fight for her in battle: The Japanese version of the game describes her as a “Pictomancer”. Her main character ability is “Sketch”, which allows her to draw an exact replica of the monster(s) she is fighting, prompting the enemy to get confused and attack itself. This is first demonstrated when she saves the player from an encounter with Ultros (a purple octopus thing, with a very high opinion of itself). With much flattery (and a threat that she’ll kill herself), Relm convinces “Uncle Ulty” to pose for a portrait. However, the reality is simply too harsh for Ultros, and realising how ugly he is, he slaps himself with his own tentacle!

Relm has an intriguing backstory. She lives in the town of Thamasa with her Grandfather, Strago. However we learn that Shadow, a seemingly heartless Mercenary who joins your party (for a price) also has some kind of attachment to Relm. The evidence comes in the form of Shadow’s dreams (about Clyde and Baram, two thieves) his dog (Inteceptor, an otherwise brutal dog appears to like Relm who describes him as “a Cute Doggy”) and a relic that can only be given to Relm or Shadow. Strago also recognises Shadow…
